I just received a phone call ...
My cousin Talena, who lived in Florida and was born April 28, 1973, passed away today at 3:30pm. For the last few months she has been fighting for her life and making strong progress after a very serious car accident.
I wish I knew more details of all of this .. but I am not too good at dealing with things like this. I'll ask around and see what I can find out - if only to let everyone know what she endured.
I do know she will be missed very much .. by a lot of people.

They say that I was her favorite aunt. My sister Ola this morning talked about her impish grin. I think she was Charles' favorite cousin. I cannot imagine what my sister (her mother) is going through. My chest is so heavy. Have been crying all night. Have no energy to get up and do anything - although there are things that I need to do.
Talena had a very serious car accident several months ago. They removed her halo nine days ago. She was having trouble breathing so they admitted her to the hospital. After nine days of doing nothing, and two days of not eating, they took her into surgery. The entry to the tracheotomy was so small - due to scar tissue, etc. - they could not get even a pediatric tube into it. She died on the operating table.
Jan & Don are grieving, terribly. We are all greiving. Jan & Don have not really thought through it; they have to go today to make arrangements.
Steven - Talena's son - they tell me is doing okay. But they don't have custody of him and are concerned about that as well.
We are waiting now. For what I don't know. We are just waiting for something.

So many moments are ingrained in our souls, that make us the people we are. December 3, 2004 is a day I shall never forget. I was woke from a sound sleep by the repitious ringing of my phone. I finally got up to answer it thinking it was a tele-marketer. I answered it to find the voice of my sister Betty on the line I instantly could tell there was something wrong. When I heard her say that Talena had passed away it was a s though someone had smacked me in the forehead with a baseball bat waking me instantly. Then immediately I felt as though there was a two ton weight on my chest, a weight that has not gone away these many day since. I fear it never will. I had no reply other than disbelief. She had been making improvements, this could not be. My thoughts immediatly went to Jan, Don and Talena's son Steven.
As a father I can not imagine what they are going through. As a brother and uncle my heart is with them.
Looking through the photo gallery her brings back so many memories I had forgotten. Thank you Charles for everything you've done here.
I just keep thinking that I will at some point wake up and realize this has all been a terrible dream.

CHRISTMAS IN HEAVEN
I see the countless Christmas trees around the world below, with tiny lights, like Heaven's stars, reflecting on the snow.
The sight is so spectacular, please wipe away that tear- for I am spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this year.
I hear the many Christmas songs that people hold so dear- but the sounds of music can't compare with the choir up here.
I have no words to tell you, the joy their voices bring, for its beyond description, to hear the angels sing.
I know how much you miss me. I see the pain inside your heart, but I am not so far away- we really aren't apart.
So be happy for me dear ones. You know I hold you dear, and be glad I'm spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this year.
I send you each a special gift, from my heavenly home above- I send you each a memory of my undying love.
After all, Love is the gift, more precious than pure gold- It was always most important in the stories Jesus told.
Please love and keep each other, as my father said to do, for I can't count the blessings or love he has for each of you.
So, have a blessed Christmas and wipe away that tear.
Remember, I'm spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this year.
